Downbytheseaside and Fear The Dragon are favorites in Jug Future Pool

For several weeks, the experts have been saying the 72nd edition of the Little Brown Jug, presented by the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, was going to be a two horse race. The bettors agree and have made Downbytheseaside and Fear The Dragon as the top choices in the Little Brown Jug Future Pool No. 1.

Downbytheseaside has been tapped the 6-5 favorite based on his recent wins in the $500,000 Messenger Pace final and the $125,000 Jug Preview. The son of Somebeachsomewhere has won nine of 13 seasonal starts and $1,595,822 for his career. Downbytheseaside is owned by Country Club Acres, Joe Sbrocco, Richard M. Lombardo and Diamond Creek Racing.

Both Downbytheseaside and Fear The Dragon are trained by Delaware, Ohio based Brian Brown.

Fear The Dragon is the second choice at 3-1. The Dragon Again colt has won the $730,000 North America Cup, the $500,000 Max Hempt Memorial and the $400,000 Adios Pace. He has been a model of consistency this season with all 12 starts resulting in first or second place finishes and $1 million in seasonal earnings. Fear The Dragon is owned by Bruce Trogdon’s Emerald Highlands Farm.

Miso Fast (7-1) and Boogie Shuffle (9-1) are the third and fourth choices.

The second future pool will be from 12 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 17) through 11:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 20), the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.
