Race 15 – Jugette Final
The elimination for the Jugette (race 11 on Wednesday) is a spectacular race and the final should prove to be equally thrilling. To provide some back story, I’m actually going with a longshot in the elimination. L A Delight is my selection based on her quick early speed and strong starting post position. While I give elimination morning line favorite Pure Country only a small chance to overcome her second-tier post in the elimination, I’m preliminarily in on her as my selection to win the second and deciding heat (final). I fully expect Pure Country to get buried along the inside in the first heat and finish somewh
ere in the middle of the pack. Having not exerted too much energy, she should have a full tank to fire hard from a mid-pack post and succeed in the final. While this is a talented field, Pure Country has been battled-tested with tough outside posts and has even tackled the boys this year. The Diamond Creek Farms-owned filly should be up to the task.
Race 18 – Little Brown Jug Second Heat
With 11 entered between two eliminations of the Little Brown Jug, it is somewhat difficult to start picking the winner of a final when you don’t know exactly who the players will be and what post positions they will have. That being said, I’ve always been a huge fan of Racing Hill and his ability to bring a top effort race after race. He starts in what I believe is the easier elimination and shouldn’t have to work very hard to advance to the second heat. Plus, an elimination win guarantees a starting post of one or two in the second heat.
he most popular selection to win will undoubtedly be Betting Line. While I can’t fault anyone for selecting a horse with 11 wins in 12 starts, I’m just not enamored with him on the half-mile track.
He is the best horse, but the best horse doesn’t always win.
