USTA Play of the Day

by Michael Carter

Northfield Park Race 11 (Pick 4)
Date: 10/22/2018  Carryover: $0  Guarantee: $10,000

Ticket: 4,5/6,8/1/6– Cost: $8.00 ($2.00 base)

Yesterday’s Recap – We went three-for-five in the Pick 5 at Batavia which was a sequence that opened with a big bomb.  We hit the ALL button in the wrong leg as it provided a favorite in the second leg.  The Pick 5 of 7/4/3/2/3 returned $5,350.50.

Breakdown:

Race 11: #4 FRATERNITY has won four of his last six starts and he has handled the outside draws with absolute disdain.  He has a good amount of early speed and if he can get into the race early I expect him to be very close tonight.  #5 SANATTLE SLEW was parked the miles last week, so I plan on throwing that race out.  If he can return to form from here, he may be tough at a short price.

Race 12: #6 UNCLE REIMUS has put in two monster efforts from outside posts just missing in both of those efforts.  Last week he was second to Dancin Yankee who is a champion racehorse in his own right.  He is super-versatile which doesn’t hurt his chances here.  #8 SOUTHWIND AMAZON should not be tossed from the ticket, I don’t care what the price is.  This gelding is always caught on the outside because he is just that dominate.  Definitely a play.

Race 13: #1 MUSTANG TOM has won two of his last three starts against $6,000 claimers and now takes a step back up in class to see if that form will continue.  He has high cruising speed and that is something I like off the rail.

Race 14: #6 ADVERSARY SEELSTER was scratched sick and has had a little bit of time off which is obviously a little bit of a concern, but if he can round back into the form he could be a tough horse to beat.  He has a big closing kick and if Lems can get him into a good striking spot, I’d look for him late.
