Saratoga Casino Hotel holds foal naming contest
Saratoga Springs, NY — Saratoga Casino Hotel is holding a foal naming contest for the newest filly from Derue Stables. Beginning today, guests may submit a name option for the contest on www.SaratogaCasino.com.
Entries are due by Oct. 20, and one winner will be selected by a panel of judges on Oct. 25. The contestant who submits the winning foal name will receive a one night stay at Saratoga Casino Hotel and a complimentary dinner for two at Morton’s® The Steakhouse.
Sired by Flying Instructor and out of Stage It Right, the 6-month old filly currently resides with another filly in the pasture adjacent to Saratoga Casino’s new hotel. Her distinct markings include a white star on the center of her forehead.
The foal belongs to Jordan Derue of Derue Stables. Derue claimed the mare, Stage It Right, in the fall of 2015. When her performance on the track began to take a noticeable decline, Derue brought her in to the vet for a checkup. To everyone’s surprise, they discovered the mare was pregnant. On May 18, she gave birth to the filly that Derue is currently seeking a name for.
“Given the unique story of this horse, we’re very excited to see the names that come in from this contest,” said Jordan Derue, head of Derue Stables.
“We’re very grateful to Jordan for the opportunity to share this beautiful filly with our fans,” said John Matarazzo, Director of Racing Operations at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
Submitted names are limited to 18 characters including spaces, dashes or apostrophes, and cannot exceed four words. Names must comply with the USTA Foal Naming Rules, which can be viewed in full on the foal naming contest page atwww.saratogacasino.com/name-that-foal/.
