Owner Open Houses at Running Aces

Columbus, MN—When local owner Kimberly Johnson Mintell bought her first racehorse, she never anticipated the tremendous amount of pride she’d experience every time her horse steps on the track.

“It’s fun and exciting to watch the horses start out at the gate and race down the track’s stretch toward the finish line, hoping your horse can give just a little more than the others and come out the winner. I am really proud to own a harness horse, whether he wins or not; I am truly blessed to be a part of this exciting sport.”

Minnesota Harness Racing Inc. is hosting Owner Open Houses in the Running Aces Casino & Racetrack Atrium on the last Monday in May, June, and July (May 29, June 26, and July 31) from 5-8 p.m. in hopes of gathering local harness racing fans for a classy yet laid back evening to learn about the thrill of Standardbred racehorse ownership.

MHRI’s Owner Open Houses are free to attend and will include hors d’oeuvres, drawings, giveaways, and friendly faces at the door. Upon arrival, everyone will receive an ownership manual containing helpful questions to ask themselves and potential trainers, nearby racing locations, expectations as a new owner, trainer bios, and more. Throughout the evening, there will be several opportunities to develop professional relationships with Running Aces trainers, as well as to hear from other local owners about the enrichment that harness racing has lent to their lives.

As the title implies, this event will be set up like an open house, so attendees may come and go as they please.

MHRI will also be offering barn tours for prospective owners in an effort to provide them with a more complete ownership experience. There is no automatic commitment to own a racehorse, and there are also many options for partial ownership should that be more appealing to those seeking greater harness racing involvement, but aren’t prepared to take on full ownership.

Running Aces is located one exit past the intersection of 35E and 35W, just 30 minutes north of the Twin Cities, at 15201 Running Aces Blvd. in Columbus.
